Our Gurukuls

The Gurukul is an ancient system of learning where knowledge was nurtured in a close, value-based environment. At DPCCT, we have reimagined this tradition to meet the needs of today while safeguarding the essence of indigenous culture. We see education as a vital force for meaningful transformation, and in response to the growing gap in the transmission of traditional values among the younger generations of Arunachal Pradesh, we initiated Gurukul-style schools. These institutions stand as centres for both indigenous wisdom and contemporary learning.

Each Gurukul brings together culturally aware language teachers, who guide students in native rituals, traditions, and sports, alongside VKV’s experienced staff delivering CBSE based modern education. This unique blend allows children to grow into future ready individuals grounded in their cultural roots, skilled in practical life lessons, and conscious of environmental responsibilities. Within these spaces, learning extends beyond classrooms: mornings may begin with yoga and meditation, afternoons may take students into forests or community settings, and evenings often resonate with storytelling, craft, or traditional performances. So far, DPCCT has established four Gurukuls: Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko at Rang, Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko at Mwya, Menjwk Meqkok Rwguu at Basar, and Nilung Tungko at Pabo, with a total enrollment of 424 students in the 2025–2026 academic session.

Looking ahead, we are set to expand with two more Gurukuls Nyibu Nyigam Yarku Yekar in Upper Subansiri (Tagin Community) and Miji Migung Yarko in Lower Subansiri (Apatani Community).

Our Gurukuls are more than schools they are living environments where children learn from books, elders, nature, and community life itself. They prepare a generation that is not only academically capable but also deeply connected to their heritage. Curious to know more about our Gurukuls and the communities they serve?

Learning Beyond Books

Life at our Gurukuls is vibrant and hands-on. Students explore traditional games, co-curricular activities, and craft-making, guided by teachers who understand and respect their culture. These experiences help children grow with confidence, creativity, and pride in their heritage.

Growing Together

With each passing year, more children join our Gurukuls, reflecting the trust and enthusiasm of the communities. With the support of our donors, we hope to expand even further, creating more spaces where culture, learning, and community come alive together.
