The Gurukul is rooted in the Nyishi community, the largest indigenous group in Arunachal Pradesh. Today, they form the heart of the newly created Keyi Panyor district, where villages, rituals, and oral traditions still reflect a way of life closely tied to the land. The very name Nyishi derived from Nyi meaning “human” and Shi meaning “being” captures their worldview of identity and belonging. By embedding such cultural values into everyday learning, Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko Mwya becomes more than a school; it is a place where Nyishi children grow with pride in who they are while preparing for the opportunities of the wider world.
