Preserving Indigenous Voices
To safeguard and sustain the rich linguistic heritage of Arunachal Pradesh’s indigenous communities, the Donyi Polo Cultural and Charitable Trust (DPCCT) established the Language Development Committee in October 2024. The initiative unites scholars and educators from five major Tani-clan communities Nyishi, Galo, Adi, Apatani, and Tagin with a shared purpose of ensuring that native languages continue to find expression in education and everyday life.
The committee held its first meeting on 19th October 2024 at HIM International School, Jollang, Itanagar, where members set clear objectives and exchanged ideas on how local languages could be meaningfully incorporated into the Gurukul learning system. This gathering marked the beginning of an organised and collaborative effort to create language syllabi, learning resources, and cultural materials suited for young learners.

Constitution and Members
The committee is chaired by Dr. Joram Begi, who also serves as the Chief Advisor of DPCCT, with Dr. Robin Hissang as the Secretary Member. Under their guidance, language-specific committees were formed, each working independently to design and release syllabi and educational content in their respective native languages.
Language Development Committee Members:
Nyishi Language Development Committee: Dr. Robin Hissang, Dr. Liza Lamdak
Galo Language Development Committee: Dr. Tejum Padu, Dr. Bomchak Riba
Adi Language Development Committee: Shri Tarak Mize, Shri Tajing Taki
Tagin Language Development Committee: Er. Lardik Kare, Dr. Gyamnya Baki Garam

Work and Vision
The committee’s work focuses on developing textbooks, dictionaries, and teaching aids that reflect the linguistic and cultural identity of each community. Alongside academic materials, it also plans to organise language workshops, cultural sessions, and interactive activities to encourage the younger generation to speak and learn in their mother tongues.
These collective efforts strengthen DPCCT’s larger vision of nurturing an education system that respects cultural roots while equipping the younger generation to move confidently in the modern world.
